Sundial unites science and art. The design of the sundial requires good knowledge of math, astronomy and geography. At the same time sundial could be seen as a stand-alone artwork such as a sculpture or a monument. Wide selection of materials and techniques has been used to make sundials: decorative stones, bronze, terracotta, stained glass, painting etc.
